Walk the Plank with Mayday Games - A Review

Greeting gamers! For those who have read my previous blogs, you know that I spend a lot of time on +Kickstarter. Well, one of my many pledges lead to the game Walk the Plank by +Mayday Games. Walk the Plank is defined as a board game in which the premise is the captain needs to thin down his crew by having them fight for survival by trying to push the other pirates of the ship.

Loads of fun as you play with little wooden markers called meeples standing as you crew. Every player gets a set of cards to play 3 at a time per round which dictates what your pirate meeples will do. These cards are played face down and one at a time each player flips open a card until the turns go around 3 times. These cards allow your crew to shove other crew members forward, run back to the ship, pull down other pirates, extend or retract the planks. The cards must be played strategically in the right order as you must follow what the card says even if it forces you to push your own crew off the plank. I you are the last pirate standing, you are in the captains favor and your crew or what is left of your crew survives.

To add to the fun, for our second game, we played exactly the same rules but instead of choosing the cards to play, we took cards randomly face down. This really was a twist to the game as no one knew what their crew members would do. My kids found the random play more fun and exciting. This is a very well made game and easy to learn. I look forward to playing the sequel Get Bit! where the pirates that were Walked off the Plank, have to swim away from the sharks. Until then, happy gaming!
